HC Deb 22 July 1958 vol 592 cc198-9
9. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the next report of the Cohen Council will be available.

Mr. Amory

The chairman of the Council has informed me that the Council hopes to issue its second report within the next month or two.

Mr. Hamilton

Can the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that the Council will give a full explanation of the mystery of how the Retail Price Index keeps going up whilst import prices keep going down?

Mr. Amory

I could not possibly give that assurance. The Council is, of course, entirely independent, and what its members put in its report is entirely a matter for their discretion.
