HC Deb 22 July 1958 vol 592 c226
45. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister if he will consider inviting King Hussein to visit this country.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

Not at present, Sir.

Mr. Hughes

Has not the Prime Minister told us that the King has appealed to him for protection because he is in danger of assassination from his own people? Would not the King be safer over here, where he could be looked after by a couple of policemen, instead of our sending a lot of British soldiers over there?

The Prime Minister

That is rather an ungenerous supplementary question. I feel sure that the King would feel that his place is in his own country.
