§ 57. Mrs. L. Jegerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent Athens broadcasts to Cyprus are jammed; and why.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe position has not changed since the hon. Lady last asked Questions on this subject on the 31st October, 1957, and 19th February, 1958. I have nothing to add to the replies then given.
§ Mrs. JegerIs it not time that the right hon. Gentleman looked at this question 224 again? Is he aware of the discontent caused in Cyprus by the fact that contentious and inaccurate broadcasts from Ankara are not being jammed? Would it not be more constructive to seek the co-operation of the Greek Government in using their radio to appeal for the ending of violence in Cyprus rather than to leave the Cypriot people cut off in this way?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydNo, Sir. The hon. Lady should get this matter into perspective and remember that Athens Radio broadcast incitements to violence for eighteen months before any jamming took place.
