HC Deb 21 July 1958 vol 592 c11
4. Mrs. Slater

asked the Minister of Health how many local authorities undertake the training of sanitary inspectors.

Mr. R. Thompson

I regret that this information is not at present available. The new Public Health Inspectors Education Board will be inviting local authorities to undertake practical training and will subsequently publish a list of schemes approved.

Mrs. Slater

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that some local authorities are already training sanitary inspectors year after year but that when they are trained other local authorities immediately offer a house or some other inducement and they lose the people they have trained? Has the hon. Gentleman any idea how soon it will be before all local authorities are advised that they should be training sanitary inspectors?

Mr. Thompson

The training arrangements are now in process of being revised. The Board is first consulting the local authority associations and intends to issue its invitation to local authorities in the late autumn.
