HC Deb 21 July 1958 vol 592 c23
33. Mrs. L. Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations he has made to the Turkish Government about hostile and incorrect broadcasts from Ankara to Cyprus.

Mr. Ian Harvey

As my right hon. Friend the Colonial Secretary told the hon. Member for Swindon (Mr. F. Noel-Baker) on 17th June, Her Majesty's Government have made the strongest representations to the Turkish Government about the tone and content of recent broadcasts from Turkey. Since that date Her Majesty's Embassy have, on instructions, made representations to the Turkish Government in the same sense on at least six occasions, and have urged them to use their influence on all concerned to refrain from violence in Cyprus. The broadcasts appear to have become less violent.
