asked the Postmaster-General whether he will make a statement on the proposed new design for telephone kiosks.

Mr. K. Thompson

It has not yet been possible to come to a conclusion. Models incorporating preliminary sketches by three eminent designers are being considered in consultation with the Council of Industrial Design and the Royal Fine Art Commission.

Mr. Willey

While congratulating the Postmaster-General on his initiative, may I ask the hon. Gentleman whether he is aware that this is a very important item of street furniture? Could these three designs be exhibited somewhere in the House?

Mr. Thompson

As soon as we have reached the stage at which we think the designs offered are "in the race", if I may put it that way, perhaps we can consider the hon. Gentleman's suggestion.
