§ 41. Mr. Hurdasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the ice cream currently sold is made with dairy products; and whether the public demand for this quality of ice cream is increasing.
§ Mr. John HareAll ice cream must contain milk solids. Ice-cream manufacturers are not required to make returns of output, and I regret, therefore, that I cannot estimate the proportion of ice cream which is also made with dairy fats. Sales of dairy ice cream are increasing steadily however, and I am encouraged by the number of manufacturers now entering this field.
§ Mr. HurdIn view of the possibility of amending legislation, will my right hon. Friend try to let us have some more accurate information about the present demand for dairy products in ice cream? Would he also ensure that when people are receiving Government hospitality the ice cream offered is the genuine dairy product?
§ Mr. HareI have a very definite personal interest in trying to secure the object of the latter part of my hon. Friend's Question.
