HC Deb 08 July 1958 vol 591 c186
27. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is now in a position to give a considered reply to the protest he has received from Coldstream Burgh Council regarding the damage done to road A.698 by the passage of inordinately heavy indivisible loads.

Mr. Maclay

I have suggested to the Border Burghs' Convention, who raised this question with me, that Berwickshire County Council, as the highway authority, and Coldstream Town Council should arrange jointly for a technical examination of the difficulty and have offered any assistance that my Department can give in such an examination.

Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

May I ask my right hon. Friend whether his proposal has been agreed to?

Mr. Maclay

It is too early to say that. I regret that I have not been able to write to my hon. and gallant Friend before, but I will send him a copy of the letter I have sent to the Border Burghs' Convention.
