HC Deb 01 July 1958 vol 590 cc1045-6
5. Mr. G. Wilson

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, what research the Building Research Station of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has done on the use of spray taps in offices and similar buildings.

Mr. H. Nicholls

The Building Research Station has shown that the use of spray taps can effect a 50 per cent. saving in both water and fuel consumption in a properly designed installation.

Mr. Wilson

Are these taps in commercial production, and if so, to what extent are they being used? Would they be suitable on British Railways, for instance?

Mr. Nicholls

Three firms are now manufacturing them, which shows that there must be a market, otherwise they would not do it. One would have thought that these spray taps lend themselves for use on transport, and I understand that British Railways has shown some interest in them.
