§ 2. Sir W. Anstruther-Grayasked the Minister of Works whether he has considered the offer from the Town Council of the Royal Borough of North Berwick of a portrait of the late Sir John Strange-ways, M.P.; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MolsonYes, Sir. On the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Works of Art in the House of Commons I have gratefully accepted this offer.
I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my appreciation of the generosity of the Council of the Royal Burgh of North Berwick in offering this picture to the House.
§ Sir W. Anstruther-GrayMay I ask my right hon. Friend where it is proposed to hang this picture? Secondly, may I ask him whether a suitable inscription will be placed on it to show its origin?
§ Mr. MolsonI intend to consult the Advisory Committee on Works of Art as to the most suitable place for hanging it. I have seen a photograph. It is a most attractive seventeenth century portrait of an old Member of this House, whose son and grandson sat in the Convention Parliament with him, and I hope to find a suitable place for it during the long Recess.
