§ 25. Sir L. Plummerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the number of new township stands which have been surveyed by the Government of Northern Rhodesia on Crown Lands; and to what extent layouts for African townships have also been surveyed.
§ Mr. ProfumoDuring 1956, 2,132 stands were surveyed in African townships and 2,460 (including residential, commercial and industrial stands) in general townships; for the first nine months of this year, the figures are 841 and 1,463, respectively.
§ Sir L. PlummerIs it not also the fact that only three African townships have been surveyed? If that is so, is it not because there is a shortage of surveyors, and could not they be provided from this country to carry on this work?
§ Mr. ProfumoI would like to look into that latter suggestion of the hon. Member.
