15. Mr. Philips Priceasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what percentage, on the average, of the cubes and cakes purchased by farmers for 1233 their dairy and feeding stock from manufacturers and port millers is from home-grown ingredients and what percentage is imported from overseas.
§ Mr. GodberIn the cereal year 1956–57, about 25 per cent. of all manufactured compound feeding-stuffs produced in Great Britain consisted of home-grown materials, the other materials being imported.
Mr. Philips PriceDoes not the hon. Gentleman think that the present percentage of imported ingredients for feeding-stuffs is a strain on our balance of payments position abroad?
§ Mr. GodberWe would certainly welcome a larger proportion of home-grown ingredients, but in order to put it into perspective, I think it is fair to say that these figures relate to compound mixtures and that large quantities of home-grown feeding-stuffs are produced and consumed on the farms, and do not, of course, appear in the figures.
