HC Deb 26 February 1958 vol 583 c366
40. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that redundant officers and warrant officers who have obtained for themselves the promise of business appointments are being told by his Department that it is impossible to state a firm date by which they will be free, and that, as a result, their civil employment is jeopardised; and what steps he is taking to overcome this difficulty.

Mr. Soames

All officers, warrant officers and N.C.O.s who are to be prematurely retired between April, 1958, and March, 1959, have already been notified. The majority of them have also been told the actual month of discharge, and this information will be given to the remainder as soon as replacements have been arranged. It is my intention that all those to be retired should be told the date at least six months in advance.
