§ 35. Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for War when the La Salle College buildings, Hong Kong, will be released and handed back to the Brothers for use as a school.
§ The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Christopher Soames)La Salle College is at present used as a military hospital. We have decided to build new hospital accommodation in Hong Kong which will enable us to give up our tenure of the college. I fear it is too early yet to estimate accurately when the new hospital building will be completed, but as soon as I can I will let my hon. Friend know.
§ Mr. WallWill my right hon. Friend press forward as quickly as possible with this matter? Is he aware that during the twenty-five years of the existence of this 364 college it has been used as a school for nine years and that for the rest of the time it has been requisitioned? Is he aware that it is very badly needed by 1,000 technical pupils in the Colony?
§ Mr. SoamesYes, I am aware of the urgency of the matter.
