HC Deb 20 February 1958 vol 582 c1365
Mr. du Cann

I beg to ask leave to present a Petition signed by 17,600 residents of Taunton and the surrounding countryside, being persons interested in the welfare of the ancient establishment of Huish's Grammar School, Taunton. This Petition has the unqualified support of Somerset County Council, Taunton Town Council, Taunton Rural District Council, Taunton Trades Council, and of the masters and boys and old boys of the school.

The Petition states, in effect, that the school buildings are inadequate, that the equipment, especially for the teaching of science, is out of date, and that the matter is of grave local concern. The Petition concludes: Wherefore your Petitioners pray that at the earliest possible opportunity a new three-stream grammar school should be built to replace the existing buildings of Huish's Grammar School, Taunton. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
