§ 33. Mrs. L. Jegerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will set up a departmental committee to consider the provision of accommodation for homeless families, especially in view of the increase in homelessness which will result from the Rent Act, 1957.
§ Mr. BrookeI do not think that such action is called for.
§ Mrs. JegerIs the Minister completely unaware of the difficulties which many local authorities already have in dealing with homeless families for whom they have at present to provide, and does he not care at all what happens to the thousands of people who will be turned out in October?
§ Mr. BrookeI care a great deal, and I have already said that, while there will be no amendment of the Rent Act, I am quite sure that the great majority of difficult cases will, in fact, find a solution before October.
§ Mrs. JegerOn a point of order. In view of the completely unsatisfactory nature of that reply, I shall endeavour to raise the matter on the Adjournment of the House.
