HC Deb 03 February 1958 vol 581 cc792-3
13. Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps he has taken to co-ordinate the measures taken by the Colonial Office and Foreign Office to acquaint British subjects or aliens wishing to immigrate into Britain with the facilities which exist or limitations which are in force.

Dr. Hill

Aliens wishing to immigrate into Britain can obtain all the information they need from the Consulates in foreign countries. British subjects may enter the United Kingdom without restriction. Ample material about conditions in Britain is provided in the official overseas information services.

Mr. Greenwood

Nevertheless, is it not a fact that many of these people, both aliens and British subjects, come here with a quite wrong impression of the conditions which they will encounter? Could not the right hon. Gentleman do rather more at this stage to stop future disappointment and disillusionment?

Dr. Hill

I am informed that ample information is available. If there are particular instances of what the hon. Gentleman regards as deficiency, I shall be glad to look into them.
