HC Deb 11 December 1958 vol 597 cc501-2
33. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers with experience of detecting forgery are now employed at Scotland Yard; and what training they have received.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The detection of forgery is dealt with in the training courses through which all detective officers of the Metropolitan Police pass It is not possible to say without detailed inquiries how many officers have had experience in forgery cases.

Mr. Hughes

Has not the Home Secretary at his disposal many experienced officers capable of detecting forgery? Would he consider submitting the Casement diaries to them for their consideration and report?

Mr. Butler

I had foreseen that the hon. Member might introduce that subject on this Question, which relates to the training of the Metropolitan Police. I should prefer to deal with it as a separate Question on another occasion.
