HC Deb 04 December 1958 vol 596 c1355
34. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will arrange for police patrol cars in the metropolis to carry portable notice boards bearing words such as "Accident ahead, drive slowly," which could be erected as a warning on either side of an accident, especially on dual carriageways carrying fast moving traffic.

Mr. Renton

This is a matter for the Commissioner of Police. He informs my right hon. Friend that a number of traffic patrol cars carry special equipment, including warning signs for use at the scene of accidents, and that new relective signs and flashing lights are being tried out for this purpose.
