§ 8. Sir W. Anstruther-Grayasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when last he approached the Australian Government regarding their prohibition of entry of cattle from the United Kingdom; and with what result.
§ Mr. John HareWe were in touch with the Australian Government in June of this year, when we were advised that the prohibition imposed on imports on account of blue tongue disease would remain in force until, in the opinion of the Australian Government, the importation of ruminant animals might be resumed without undue risk of infection.
§ Sir W. Anstruther-GrayWill my right hon. Friend take note of the fact that six months have now passed? Is it not time to ask the Australian Government again? It is very vexatious to have the exclusion of British cattle imports imposed upon us.
§ Mr. HareI am also concerned. On the other hand, the Australian Government have the right to make up their own mind on this. I am advised that no useful purpose would be served in making further representations at the present moment. I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that I am watching this very carefully to see how the situation develops.
