asked the Minister of Labour the percentage increase in unemployment in St. Helen's, Lancashire, in comparison with the same period in 1956 and 1957.

Mr. Wood

One hundred and four per cent. in both cases.

Mr. Spriggs

Has the hon. Gentleman seen a Press statement suggesting that in the very near future a further 600 men will be made redundant in one industry in this area? Will he use his good offices to see if these men can be retained in their own industry in St. Helen's?

Mr. Wood

I have not seen that report, but I will examine it when I see it.
