§ 36. Mr. Edward Evansasked the Minister of Labour how far the project to publish a booklet on devices and 1186 gadgets to help disabled persons to overcome their handicaps has progressed; and if he will ensure that the suggestion made to him that this publication should be illustrated will be given effect.
§ Mr. WoodSome material for a booklet on work aids for the disabled has been collected and employers and voluntary organisations are being asked for details of other aids which may be suitable for inclusion. It is intended that the booklet should be illustrated.
§ Mr. EvansCan the hon. Gentleman say when we may expect the booklet? How will it be distributed when it is available?
§ Mr. WoodI cannot answer the second part of the hon. Gentleman's supplementary question. With regard to the first part, we are anxious that it shall be illustrated as the result of a suggestion the hon. Member made about a year ago. Although that is not necessarily what will hold us up, our artists are very busy at the moment and it may be a little time before we can get the booklet out, but we shall do so as quickly as we can.
§ Mr. McCannIs the hon. Gentleman aware that an exhibition of these devices was recently held by the Youth Services Committee of the County Borough of Rochdale, that it created a tremendous amount of interest locally, and that it would bring a great deal of happiness to disabled persons if the devices were more widely known?
