HC Deb 02 December 1958 vol 596 cc1013-4
28. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many factories on the various trading estates in the North-East are untenanted; what steps he has taken to date to find tenants for them; and what are the prospects.

Mr. J. Rodgers

Five, Sir. All our regional controllers are using their best endeavours to find suitable tenants. We have succeeded within recent months in re-letting four factories in the North-East.

Mr. Fernyhough

Would not the hon. Gentleman agree that these closed factories are a monument to the success of the Government's economic and financial policies? Will he assure us that in the immediate months ahead the Government will tackle the problem of creating new employment as keenly as they pursued policies to create unemployment?

Mr. Rodgers

That is another question.
