HC Deb 02 December 1958 vol 596 cc1023-4
49. Mr. Watkins

asked the Prime Minister whether he will indicate the places in Wales where there was a monitoring service for the testing of radioactive fall-out; and what establishments are able to give the results of such tests upon soil, herbage, farm animals, milk, drinking water, and human bones.

The Prime Minister

The programme of monitoring milk and other biological materials, including human bone, and domestic water supplies is undertaken on a country-wide basis. Samples of soil, herbage and sheep bones are taken from Cwmystwyth and Lake Vyrnwy and of sheep bones only from Talgarth. The results are published at present by the Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, and copies of the reports are placed in the Library.

Mr. Watkins

May I ask the Prime Minister why the Atomic Energy Commission does not make these reports available to the local authorities? If a request is made by local authorities, will the Commission make them available to them?

The Prime Minister

I will certainly look into that.
