HC Deb 24 April 1958 vol 586 cc1153-4
24. Mr. Swingler

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what administrative saving will result from the reduction of Entertainments Duty on cinemas.

Mr. Simon

There will be some small saving, but a precise estimate is not available.

Mr. Swingler

Would there not be a much bigger saving if the tax were abolished?

Hon. Members

Answer.

Mr. Simon

If the hon. Member wants an answer, I should say that there would be some saving in the administration, but there would also be a very considerable loss of revenue.
