§ 8. Mr. P. Williamsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is satisfied with the treaties governing relations between Great Britain and the various States in the Persian Gulf and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydThe answer to the first part of my hon. Friend's Question I would say is in general, Yes, Sir. The question of a statement does not therefore arise.
§ Mr. WilliamsIf my right hon. and learned Friend is only in general satisfied, what is he doing to remove the remaining dissatisfaction which, one deduces, is yet in his mind? Would not it be a good thing to conduct a review of all our treaty relationships with all of the States in the Middle East? Many of the treaties are well out of date.
§ Mr. LloydThat is exactly the kind of review which is being undertaken in certain cases, but I think it would be most unwise of me to particularise at this moment.
