HC Deb 23 April 1958 vol 586 c942
16. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what recent consultation he has had with the United States Government regarding the unfreezing of Egyptian assets.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

We have had several discussions with the United States Government on this topic recently.

Mr. Wall

Can my right hon. and learned Friend assure the House that Her Majesty's Government will not agree to such action unless and until British subjects whose assets have been sequestrated have received compensation and British subjects now in gaol have been released?

Mr. Lloyd

I thought that my hon. Friend dealt with the policy of the United States Government in his Question. That has been stated to be that if an agreement were accepted to clear up the dispute between the United Arab Republic and the Suez Canal Company, the United States would consider removing its blocking order.
