HC Deb 23 April 1958 vol 586 cc954-5
36 and 37. Mr. Moss

asked the Minister of Labour (1) what steps he is taking or will take to obtain adequate statistics from industry on apprenticeship intake;

(2) what steps he is taking or will take to collect information from industry about wastage rates.

Mr. Wood

The view of the subcommittee of the National Joint Advisory Council on the recruitment and training of young workers in industry, with which I concur, was that the collection of statistics about apprentice occupations in any industry was desirable and could be most readily done by that industry itself. The sub-committee further suggested that one of the functions of the National Apprenticeship Council, the establishment of which was recommended in its Report, should be to assist industries in formulating the necessary statistical inquiries.
