§ 30. Mr. Croninasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will arrange for the Bank of England to publicise more 339 information as to the reasons for changes in the Bank Rate and as to the nature of and reasons for its open market operations.
§ Mr. MaudlingThe Governor has recently made a number of public statements.
§ Mr. CroninIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Governor's statements tend to be rather obscure and there is a certain amount of doubt about the intellectual quality of the Bank's planning? Would not it be in the public interest as well as in the Bank's interest to throw more light on the Bank's deliberations?
§ Mr. MaudlingIt may be that the obscurity is more in the eye of the beholder than in the statements themselves.
