HC Deb 16 April 1958 vol 586 cc139-40
3. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Defence why he postponed his intended visit to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and when he now expects to make this proposed visit.

Mr. Ward

I have been asked to reply.

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Defence accepted in principle an invitation from the Soviet Government to visit Russia. No date for the visit has yet been fixed.

Mr. Lewis

Has the Minister made any further progress towards fixing a date? Would not it be a good thing for him to accept this offer as early as possible and make a visit?

Mr. Ward

I cannot add anything to what I have just said. No date for a visit has yet been fixed.
