asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a further statement about the time when he expects the Committee on Transactions in Seeds to publish its Report.

Mr. Amory

I have just received a Report from the Committee on Transactions in Seeds on amendments to the Seeds Act, warranty and other matters. The Report will be published as soon as possible. The Committee will now consider problems relating to the protection of plant breeders' rights. Meanwhile my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for the Home Department and the Secretary of State for Scotland and I would like to thank the members of the Committee most warmly for their long and arduous work on the inquiry they have just completed.

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the information given in the Answer to this Question will be welcomed by all the farmers throughout the United Kingdom, because many farmers have felt during the delay there has been over the publication of this Report that they were being deprived of the full benefit which they can now receive from the further development of the pedigree seed trade?

Mr. Amory

There were important problems here to be investigated and reported on, and I am very glad to have this Report.
