HC Deb 12 November 1957 vol 577 cc768-9
32. Mr. Jay

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will now introduce compulsory limitation of dividends.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

No, Sir. I do not intend to fix either dividends or wages.

Mr. Jay

As the Government, and the Minister of Health, in particular, are now compulsorily limiting wages, how can it be fair not to do the same with dividends?

Mr. Thorneycroft

My right hon. Friend is not fixing wages, and I cannot agree with the right hon. Gentleman's desire to fix all money incomes in this country.

Several Hon. Members

Mr. Speaker

We really must get on. Mr. Vane.
