HC Deb 29 May 1957 vol 571 cc401-2
31. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation on what date he anticipates meeting a delegation from the British Cycle and Motor-Cycle Industries Association to discuss a change in the legislation about light motor-cycles which fulfil the definition given for Moped in Annex 1 to the 1949 Convention; and when he expects to make a statement arising from these discussions.

Mr. Nugent

I met a deputation from the Association this morning; a further statement will be made as soon as possible.

Mr. Lewis

With regard to "as soon as possible", will the Minister say whether if I table a Question for next week he will be able to make a statement by then?

Mr. Nugent

No, Sir; I am afraid that it will not be possible to make a statement as soon as that. Before making a statement, we must receive a Report from the Departmental Committee on Road Safety and consider that alongside the representations made to me this morning. However, I realise the urgency of the matter, and we will certainly make a statement as soon as we can.
