HC Deb 28 May 1957 vol 571 cc209-10
38. Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will now announce his decisions, following inquiries into claims for general public access to certain wild moorland areas in Yorkshire and Lancashire.

Mr. H. Brooke

I hope to be in a position to announce my decisions on these difficult cases next month.

Mr. Blenkinsop

Does the Minister feel that the Duke of Devonshire's interests are so overwhelming that it takes two years to decide whether anyone can walk over his grouse moors?

Mr. Brooke

There is no question of any personality. The papers are before me at the moment. They concern twelve areas in the West Riding and other areas in Lancashire, and I am now more than ever aware of the great complexity of the matter. I want to reach a decision that is a correct one.
