HC Deb 15 May 1957 vol 570 c383
27. Mr. C. R. Hobson

asked the Postmaster-General when he will be able to post notices in the post offices setting out the details and times of the reductions in services, delivery and collection of mail, parcels and letters for London and the main provincial towns.

Mr. Marples

The changes announced on 2nd May are subject to final ratification at the Annual Conference of the Union of Post Office Workers. Their detailed application to individual areas will then be considered and local announcements will be made as and when arrangements are completed in each case.

Mr. Hobson

In view of the nature of that reply, can the right hon. Gentleman say whether he will make a statement to the House?

Mr. Marples

I will consider that suggestion, but it may be difficult to make a statement to the House because conditions vary locally over the country as a whole.

Mr. Hobson

Would the Minister put such a statement in the Library?

Mr. Marples

I should like to consider that suggestion.
