HC Deb 15 May 1957 vol 570 c401
52. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what action he proposed to take on the parking scheme submitted to him by the Westminster City Council.

Mr. Watkinson

I have consulted the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, and on its advice I am proposing to appoint an independent inspector to hold a public inquiry into this scheme as soon as possible.

Mr. Davies

Will the Minister make that "as soon as possible" "very speedily", because the need to have schemes in force is very urgent, particularly following the ending of petrol rationing? Is he in a position to say whom he proposes to appoint as the independent inspector?

Mr. Watkinson

No, I am not at the moment in a position to say. I should, in fairness, say that the Westminster City Council has lost no time in bringing such a scheme forward, and I am grateful.
