HC Deb 09 May 1957 vol 569 c1150
4. Mr. Pitman

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education whether, not only to help in the teaching of mathematics and science in schools but also to help officers and other ranks into civilian employment, he will make special entry regulations and, if need be, provide emergency training to enable those who will be demobilized with mathematical and technical knowledge to become qualified and employed as teachers.

Sir E. Boyle

My noble Friend hopes that suitable officers and other ranks will become teachers, particularly of mathematics and science. There are already arrangements for training older students with special qualifications. I cannot yet say whether other training facilities will be needed.

Mr. Pitman

Will the Minister bear that in mind when it is possible to do it?

Sir E. Boyle

Yes, certainly; we will consider it carefully.
