HC Deb 07 May 1957 vol 569 c788
22. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now studied the report of the committee of inquiry into the export of live cattle to the continent for slaughter; and whether he proposes to carry out their recommendations.

Mr. Maclay

It is hoped to make a statement very shortly.

Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

While thanking my right hon. Friend for that reply, may I ask him if he will take steps to see that "very shortly" is not too long delayed, because the recommendations are designed to reduce suffering, and we want to reduce that suffering at once?

Mr. Maclay

indicated assent.
