HC Deb 06 May 1957 vol 569 c626
34. Mr. A. Roberts

asked the Pay master-General what legislation he proposes to introduce to enforce the better utilisation of solid fuels in the interests of fuel conservation.

Mr. Maudling

None at present, Sir.

Mr. Roberts

Is the Paymaster-General aware that fuel conservation is one of the main points of our energy programme and that the only way to bring about fuel conservation is by enforcement?

Mr. Maudling

The Question refers to legislation. I do not think that any legislation at present would yield important results, although I agree that it is extremely important to get results in the general field of fuel efficiency.
