§ 28. Captain Pilkingtonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the published report about Malayanisation, he will now state what proposals have been made about employees of the Singapore Harbour Board.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydCertain proposals made by the Singapore Harbour Board are now under active consideration by the Singapore Government. These were made in confidence and it would not be appropriate to make a statement at this stage.
§ Captain PilkingtonWill my right hon. Friend say when he thinks it is likely that a statement can be made?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThis is a matter which I know the Singapore Government realise has aroused considerable anxiety. I am sure that they are aware of the need to make a statement at the earliest possible date.
