HC Deb 19 March 1957 vol 567 cc202-3
33. Miss Herbison

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when all severely disabled persons who require invalid cars to get them to and from their work will be supplied with one.

Mr. Maclay

Cars are supplied to severely disabled war pensioners who are receiving pension at the 100 per cent. rate and are accepted as coming within certain medical categories of disablement. I am advised that all war pensioners qualified to receive cars have them. All other equally disabled persons are qualified to receive motor tricycles.

Miss Herbison

Is the Minister aware that on two occasions I have taken up with him a case of one of my constituents, and that on both occasions I have been informed by the Ministers at the Scottish Office that this constituent cannot get a car until all those who need cars for work have got them? Is he also aware that this answer does not line up with previous replies I have received?

Mr. Maclay

The information I have given is correct as far as I can possibly check, but I would be glad to look at these cases again.
