HC Deb 19 March 1957 vol 567 cc209-10
45. Mr. Lipton

asked the Prime Minister what negotiating machinery he is using to settle the interim adjustment of pay for general practitioners.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

My right hon. Friends and I have not yet decided what should be done by way of an interim adjustment for general practitioners but, as I informed the House on 12th March, I shall make a further statement in due course.

Mr. Lipton

Why should there be any delay in negotiating this matter? Will the right hon. Gentleman consult the Home Secretary, who is by way of being an orthopaedic expert, and does not, anyhow, appear to be dragging his feet in the matter now?

The Prime Minister

We have already made an interim announcement with regard to certain types, the junior hospital officers, and I hope to make a further statement in due course.
