HC Deb 11 March 1957 vol 566 c792
37. Mr. Crouch

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he proposes to take to raise the proportion of dairy products used in ice cream.

Mr. Amory

I will consider this when I have received the report of the Food Standards Committee, which, as I have informed my hon. Friend, is reviewing the present standard for ice cream.

Mr. Crouch

Is my right hon. Friend aware that when the Milk Marketing Board was formed some 25 years ago, both it and my right hon. Friend the Member for Kelvingrove (Mr. Elliot) did all they could to get an increase in the milk used in ice cream, and that, though my right hon. Friend told me the other day that ice cream today is sold which contains 65 per cent. water, it is milk that we want in ice cream, not water?

Mr. Amory

I will bear in mind what my hon. Friend has said.
