asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when and where it is proposed to hold a Commonwealth Economic and Trade Conference.

As the House knows, the Prime Minister of Canada has invited the Commonwealth Finance Ministers to hold a meeting in Ottawa at the end of September. My right hon. Friend looks forward to attending this meeting, which will provide an opportunity of considering the general questions of Commonwealth economic development and Commonwealth trade. The question whether a further and special meeting would be useful will, no doubt, be discussed in Ottawa.
