HC Deb 24 July 1957 vol 574 c393
8. Mr. Shepherd

asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been drawn to the poor reception given to the design of the new postal orders; and whether he will undertake to revise these with a view to making them more consistent with the high standards previously obtaining.

The Postmaster-General (Mr. Ernest Marples)

I am not aware of any poor reception of the new design, which I regard as an improvement.

Mr. Shepherd

Might it not be that people do not complain for a reason which a lady gave me this morning? She wondered whether it was a misprint or a new design. Does not my right hon. Friend appreciate that this new design is wishy-washy in print, that the typography is appalling and that the layout is a glorified mix-up? Will he make certain that nothing like this is done again and submit these designs to the Council of Industrial Design, which costs us £200,000 a year?

Mr. Marples

I am sorry that my hon. Friend can give only qualified approval. I will take note of his suggestion.
