§ 31. Mr. de Freitasasked the Secretary of State for Air what he is doing to remind schoolmasters, parents and young men that for many years to some aircrew will be needed in the Royal Air Force.
Mr. WardWe have written to schools and to the universities; to the parents of all holders of R.A.F. scholarships; and to units of the Air Training Corps about the continuing need for aircrew. New advertisements also stress this need, as will the film we are now making, for exhibition in schools, about careers in the Royal Air Force. I am grateful to the hon. Member for this opportunity to emphasise the point once more.
§ Mr. de FreitasWhile I am grateful for that reply, may I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman will do something about the Minister of Defence who constantly gives the impression that the day of manned aircraft is entirely over, forgetting that troops will not be transported by guided missiles or anything like that for a long time to come, if ever? Will the right hon. Gentleman get the Minister of Defence to work in with his Department in formulating the propaganda for this type of recruiting?
