HC Deb 16 July 1957 vol 573 c921
8. Mr. Reeves

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if the British West Indies Trade Commission in London will be invited to attend the meeting of the signatories of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade; and what are the views of the Economic Committee which met in Port of Spain, Trinidad, in May, on the effects of the European Free Trade Area on the products of the West Indies.

Mr. Profumo

My right hon. Friend will be consulting Colonial Governments, nearer the time, regarding the necessity or otherwise for attaching colonial advisers to the United Kingdom delegation to the session of the G.A.T.T. which is to consider the Treaty of Rome there is no objection in principle to such attachment.

The proceedings of the Regional Economic Committee are confidential. The views of the Committee are now under consideration by the West Indian Governments.
