HC Deb 10 July 1957 vol 573 c370
33. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what rent increases are proposed in the Department's houses in Fife expressed as an average percentage of existing rents; and what are the reasons for such increases.

Mr. T. G. D. Galbraith

I am not at present in a position to make a statement about these rents.

Mr. Hamilton

Can the hon. Gentleman say when he will be in a position to make a statement, because there is a widespread view among the tenants of these houses that increases of anything from 30–60 per cent. are contemplated, and, if that is so, the workers will be bound to take counter-action which will have cumulative effects throughout the economy?

Mr. Galbraith

All I can say is that rents of Admiralty properties are always under review, but at the moment no immediate increases are contemplated.
