HC Deb 10 July 1957 vol 573 c355
8. Mrs. Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has considered the nominations submitted to him by the Standing Conference and the Women's Advisory Council of the United Nations Association in connection with the appointment of the United Kingdom delegate to the Commission on the Status of Women; and whether the appointment has now been made.

Mr. Ian Harvey

A new appointment is now under consideration. Several suggestions, including those to which the hon. Member refers, are being borne in mind.

Mrs. Butler

May I remind the Joint Under-Secretary that the women's organisations of this country are very closely watching this appointment and are very much hoping that this country will come into line with other countries by appointing a delegate who has been nominated by representative women's organisations and who is familiar with their views on the many problems of the status of women?

Mr. Harvey

I note very carefully what the hon. Lady has said.
