HC Deb 08 July 1957 vol 573 c1
Mr. Hastings

Mr. Speaker, I desire to present a Petition, signed by approximately 2,500 residents of Barking, against further experimental nuclear explosions. The Petition reads as follows: To the honourable the Members of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. The humble Petition of the undersigned residents of Barking showeth that the radiation from the explosions of nuclear weapons, being indestructible, is cumulative, and will end in the destruction of all life. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that experimental explosions of such weapons shall be stopped, and that negotiations be started with other countries so that an international agreement shall be drawn up and signed that they, with us, will end such experimental explosions. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
